Senator Rick Sanotrum writes about parenting a child with disabilities in: " Two years worth every tear" | Philadelphia Inquirer

Rick Santorum who served as Pennsylvania's Senator during the Bush administration wrote recently about parenting his special needs child: "Being the parent of a special child gives one exceptional insight into the negative perception of the disabled among many medical professionals, particularly when they see your child as having an intellectual disability. Sadly, we discovered that not only did we have to search for doctors who had experience with trisomy 18. We also had to search for those who saw Bella not as a fatal diagnosis, but as a wanted and loved daughter and sister, as well as a beautiful gift from God." The article continues:

50 Years of The Pill « HLI America

These days it seems everywhere we look we can find articles hailing and praising the 50 Year Anniversary of “The Pill”. Recently in the Washington Post, Elaine Tyler May makes the claim that “The Pill” has been making motherhood better for 50 years. This is as misleading and absurd as claiming that working in the coal mines contributes to healthy lungs. It is true that “The Pill” certainly changed Motherhood. However, the fruits of its change reveal destruction that has had far reaching effects on women, children, the family, and our nation.50 Years of The Pill « HLI America

Pennsylvania Senate Race by Sue Cirba

A variety of sources, Fox News, Drudge Report, CNN all report Joe Sestak wins the Democrat nomination for U. S. Senate of PA. The reasons are somewhat complicated.
First it might simply be seen as a repudiation of Arlen Specter, who may have been seen as an inauthentic Democrat. Sestak ran commercials that tied Specter to Bush, and Palin. The ad has Specter saying "My change in Party will help me to get re-elected". A reporter from northeast PA found the original complete quote and discovered Specter was taken out of context. It was too late, the damage had been done. Pennsylvania voters believed the Sestak ad and voted to oust Specter. Republican candidate for Senate Pat Toomey who easily beat his challenger Peg Luksik should prepare for a dirty campaign from Sestak if this ad is any indication.

Former U.S. Senator Rick Santorum in his commentary on Fox News noted President Obama could have made a difference in this race if he campaigned for Specter especially in Philadelphia. Voter turnout in Philadelphia was a mere 20%. If Obama campaigned in Philly with Specter it could have boosted voter turnout considerably. Was Obama merely trying to save himself embarrassment by distancing himself from another losing libersl? Perhaps Obama's support of Specter was not genuine in the first place. In any event, Pennsylvania voters have handed 'Snarlin Arlen" his pink slip.

Tenth and Eleventh Congressional District Races

Northeast PA election results. While the count in many races is not complete, it appears that Congressman Paul Kanjorski defeated challengers Corey O'Brien and Brian Kelly in the Eleventh Congressional District. In the tenth Congressional District Chris Carney ran unopposed on the Democrat side while Attorney Tom Marino appears to be the winner in a three way Republican race between Marino, Derk and Madiera..

National Right to Life Convention June 24-26, 2010.
The 2010 National Right to Life Convention is slated for Pittsburgh,PA June 24to 26.
Mark your calendar now for the NRLC Convention.
Speakers include Steven Mosher, the President of the Population Research Institute. Mr. Mosher is the author of Broken Earth: The Rural Chinese. While living and doing sociological research in a Chinese village through a cultural exchange program, Mosher filled over 100 notebooks with notes. When he returned to Tiwan he realized the story that cried out to be written was about the life of the rural Chinese. "Though I have been able to carry out my research and interviews with villagers without hindrance or surveillance by the authorities, ..the People's Republic is nonetheless a police state" Mosher covers "Birth Control: A Grim Game of Numbers" in his book and he uncovers the human suffering borne by those women and unborn children who suffer China's one child policy. Mosher is now combating problems produced in Third World Countries by American and United Nation's Population Control policies.
Msgr. Jim Lisante is another convention speaker. He has served as a Pastor on Long Island, has been Diocesan Director of Family Life and a spokesperson for the Church on TV and radio hosting "Personally Speaking". Msgr Lisante also wrote a book by the same title which contains a group of articles on Life Issues including one about Ana Rosa, the eight-month preborn child whose mother went to a New York City abortionist for a late term abortion. The abortionist took the woman's money, started the abortion by removing Ana Rose's right arm. The abortionist then told the mother the abortion was complete. She went into labor that night and delivered a baby who was perfect, but missing her right arm.
Steven Mosher, Msgr. Lisante and Scranton's own Gary Cangemi are three of the speakers slated for the June 24-26 convention. You will also hear stories of one couple's post abortion trauma, by Mark and LaRee Pickup. Dr. Angela Franks will discuss Planned Parenthood and Margaret Sanger's Eugenic Legacy. If there is sufficient interest the Northeast region of PHL will sponsor a bus to Pittsburgh. Call 570-343-5099 if you are interested or for further details.

Pennsylvania Primary Election May 18, 2010 - Eleventh Congressional District- Pro-Life Issue

Congressman Kanjorski and his challengers: Where do they stand on pro-life issues? By Sue CirbaMany candidates have thrown their hat in the ring to challenge incumbent Congressman Paul Kanjorski, but where do they stand on pro-life issues? National Right to Life has evaluated Congressman Kanjorski's record on the life issues. NRLC has identified 89 key votes from 1997 to 2010. Congressman Kanjorski has been in Congress for a long time. According to the National Right to Life Committee Kanjorski cast 70 key pro-life votes and 19 pro-abortion votes in the past fourteen years. It would be a shame to cast that record aside to vote for a health care bill that will eliminate all conscience protections for pro-life people who do not want to pay for abortion, and health care workers who do not want to participation in abortion. Unfortunately when the vote on health care came up, Paul Kanjorski was on the wrong side of the issue. He abandoned his pro-life record and voted for a bill with seven pro-abortion provisions including forcing taxpayers to pay for abortions. Pennsylvanians for Human Life's Scranton Chapter and National Right to Life as well as other pro-life organizations and constituents urged Congressman Kanjorski to vote against Obama's Health Plan, but their pleas fell on deaf ears. Legislative Director for National Right to Life Committee,Doug Johnson warned congressmen that a vote for Obama's health care bill would be considered a "career defining pro-abortion vote". Now Congressman Kanjorski has a pro-abortion record.

Congressman Kanjorski faces two challengers in the Democrat primary election. Lackawanna County Commissioner Corey O'Brien of Moosic and Marywood Uniiversity professor Brian Kelly of Wilkes-Barre. Sue Cirba was unable to reach either one by phone, but both refer to life issues on their web sites. Mr. O'Brien's position as listed on his web site: "I oppose abortion. After decades of divisiveness, I believe that if everyone can agree that abortion is a tragic choice for many women, both sides can find common ground and work together to implement policies that will one day eliminate the need to have abortions. To achieve that goal, I favor adoption, responsible education and access to comprehensive reproductive health care, including contraception. I do not support policies that would restrict the ability of women to receive abortions in cases of rape, incest or where the life of the mother is in danger." Unfortunately for Mr. O'Brien "comprehensive reproductive health care" as defined by Planned Parenthood includes abortion. Planned Parenthood receives millions of tax dollars and promote abortion through counseling, education and legislation and through the courts.

Brian Kelly takes a different stand. Kelly boldy outlines his views on abortion as listed on his web site which follow: A. Abortion:
1. A child has a God-given right to life from fertilization to natural death.
2. All unborn children are persons, not masses of flesh.
3. Abortion is "prohibited" in Declaration of Independence- prohibit abortion.
4. Embryonic stem cell research experiments with human life.
5. Need a Constitutional amendment defining life from conception.
6. Abortion is unjust and immoral.
7. Mothers have no right to take a fetus’ life.
8. Only exception is to preserve life of mother.
.
The Republican candidate running for the 11th Congressional district seat is Hazleton Mayor Lou Barletta. In Mayor Barletta 2008 run for Congressman Kanjorski's seat, he gave an extensive interview to the Pro-Life Reporter. Barletta is solidly pro-life. Barletta's web site lists his position on the right to life: "Simply stated, I am Pro-Life. I believe that innocent life should be protected at every stage of development. I support the restoration of legal protection for innocent human life. I will oppose the efforts of some to increase or expand the protection or establishment of legal euthanasia, abortion, and human cloning. As Congress begins to tackle the issues of Medicare and health care reform, I will never support a program that results in rationing of life-saving procedures to those covered under those programs."

Mayor Barletta sent a statement on the health care bill which follows:.
“Regardless of how they try to justify it, the members of Congress who vote for this version of health care reform are voting in support of federal funding of abortions. That's the simple fact. The National Right to Life Committee and the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops say the same thing – this health care bill will subsidize abortions.
This version of reform overturns 30 years of federal law that has prevented the use of taxpayer money to pay for abortions except in certain circumstances.
As a father of four – and as a man who became a grandfather for the first time in 2009 – I cannot believe that Congressman Kanjorski, or any politician who cherishes the sanctity of life, would vote in favor of this bill.
I am extremely disappointed Congressman Kanjorski and other politicians in Washington would trade the lives of innocent unborn children for political favors.
If this bill passes, it will truly be a sad day for the right-to-life movement. And the fact that the House would even consider passing such a reprehensible assault on the unborn on a Sunday is truly appalling.I could never support this bill.”
Mayor Lou Barletta

Pro-Life Victory in West Virginia

Just moments ago, Rep. Allan Mollohan of West Virginia, a Democrat who abandoned the pro-life principles of his constituents and supported the biggest expansion of abortion since Roe, learned that Votes Have Consequences and was defeated in the Democratic primary by pro-life challenger Mike Oliviero!
Mollohan’s loss comes as a direct result of his vote for healthcare reform that included federal funding of abortion.
Who deserves all the credit for this major pro-life victory? You!
Thanks to the continued financial support of pro-life activists like you, the Susan B. Anthony List spent over $78,000 in television ads, radio ads, and robo-calls informing pro-life West Virginians that Rep. Mollohan betrayed their values by supporting ObamaCare.

Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Newark- Press Release on Controvertial Proposed Course at Seton Hall University: April 30, 2010

Press Release: Statement of The Most Reverend John J. Myers, Archbishop of Newark,
On a Proposed Course on Same-Sex Marriage At Seton Hall University

As the shepherd of the Archdiocese of Newark, I am responsible for maintaining the Catholic identity of all Church institutions and organizations within the Archdiocese, and for ensuring authentic and orthodox Catholic teaching in all educational institutions and parishes. That responsibility extends to our Catholic elementary and high schools, to our parish religious education programs for both adults and children, and to the Catholic colleges and university operating within my jurisdiction.

Recent news that a course on same-sex marriage is proposed for the fall schedule at Seton Hall University troubles me greatly.

The Church teaches - and has continued to teach for two millennia - that marriage is a union of man and woman, reflecting the complementarity of the sexes. That teaching precedes any societal connotation of marriage, and is based on natural law.

This proposed course seeks to promote as legitimate a train of thought that is contrary to what the Church teaches. As a result, the course is not in synch with Catholic teaching.

Consequently, the Board of Trustees of Seton Hall have asked the Board of Regents to investigate the matter...Press release continues at:
