Rewarding Illegal Aliens: Senate Bill Undermines The Rule of Law

The Heritage Foundation wrote a critique of the Immigration Bill which the Senate and President tried to ram through Congress before Memorial day. I address this issue because it deals with the safety of the American public. Unbelievably, the bill allows the federal government only one business day to conduct a background check to prevent crinimals and terrorists from obtaining legal status. When have you ever known the federal government to do anything in one business day?! A paragraph from the Heritage Foundation analysis follows: "Hobbled Background Checks: The bill would make it extremely difficult for the federal government to prevent criminals and terrorists from obtaining legal status. Under Section 601(h)(1), the bill would allow the government only one business day to conduct a background check to determine whether an applicant is a criminal or terrorist. Unless the government can find a reason not to grant it by the end of the next business day after the alien applies, the alien receives a probationary Z visa (good from the time of approval until six months after the date Z visas begin to be approved, however long that may be) that lets him roam throughout the country and seek employment legally."

Criminals and terrorists will be given legal status under this seriously flawed bill as happened in a 1986 amnesty bill which granted legal status to Mahmoud Abouhalima, the ringleader of the 1993 terrorist attack on the Word Trade Center. Isn't the government supposed to protect its citizens? This bill even offers amnesty to gang members.

Save the Catholic Schools! by Sol Stern, City Journal Spring 2007

I found this interesting although long article on inner city Catholic schools. What has this to do with pro-life you ask? Promoting the Gospel of Life is an integral part of the Catholic school's mission, is it not? While this article is about inner city Catholic schools in New York,I'm sure inner city Catholic schools in PA face the same challenges. The lead of this article follows:
"We almost lost Harlem’s Rice High School a few years ago. And what a defeat that would have been for all New Yorkers, Catholic and non-Catholic alike. For the past three decades, Rice has rescued at-risk African-American boys and turned them into responsible men who go on to college and then give back to the community. Yet despite this academic success, Rice almost succumbed to the demographic changes and financial pressures that have led to the closing of thousands of excellent inner-city Catholic schools and needlessly deepened the nation’s urban-education crisis." Help Kate Adamson Spread the Pro-Life Message. Vote for Kate in Prevention Magazine/ABC News Contest Vote Before May 25th

Kate Adamson is the author of Paralyzed but not Powerlesswhich tells of her experience with medical professionals who wanted to let her die after a double brain stem stroke left her completely paralyzed and unable to speak. Her doctors said she was in a “persistent vegetative state” with no hope of recovery. Surprizingly, Kate Adamson was the speaker at the Respect Life Prayer Breakfast in Scranton, PA in 2006 discussing her experience. In Kate’s words, “I won the miracle trifecta by beating million to one odds against living through the night, million to one odds against speaking again, and million to one odds against walking. I miraculously regained my active and fit life.”

Kate’s life is a testament to the fact that doctors cannot predict the future. Ms. Adamson fought for life and was recently featured on Good Morning America and the June issue of Prevention Magazine. She is one of five finalists in a nationwide “Picture of Health” contest with Prevention magazine and ABC News Now competing for a prize of $10,000. I have met and had lunch with Kate and she is a dedicated wife and mother and is also dedicated to the pro-life work which God has set before her. Please vote for Kate before May 25th at 8:59 p.m. (Pacific Time)by visiting the following link: Prevention Finalists: "So what is the picture of health? How about alive instead of dead!

In 1995, I was a fit and healthy mother of two. I had an ideal diet: no processed sugar, low fat organic foods, whole grains, lots of veggies and fruit. I was 5' 3'-- weighed 116 lbs with a body fat ratio of 12%. I worked out five days a week. If you wanted to see a healthy lifestyle, all you had to do was follow me around." Then a stroke left her completely paralyzed and Unable to Speak.
There is a video of Kate Adamson's story on the website, you can also learn more by visiting the archives of Pro-Life PA by Sue Cirba Just Click on the January 2006 Archive and scroll down to the Jan 20th post Titled Kate Adamson, Stroke Victim, Advocate for the Right to Live.

Judge Cheryl Allen and Judge Bruce Bratton won the Republican nomination for Pennsylvania Superior Court, accorting to an Associated Press story. The AP story also reported Allegheny County Judge Ron Folino and Christine Donohue won on the Democrat ticket. Both Republilcans were listed as pro-life according to the Pennsylvania Pro-Life Federation PAC and the positions of the Democrats was not known. Sadly, Judge Allen's mother died on election day. Visit GrassrootsPA for an article on this race:
GrassrootsPA » Allen & Bratton Top Shogan For GOP Superior Court Slots. Only Endorsed Dem Lagged Far Behind: A reader left a very complimentary comment about Judge Allen. It follows: "Judge Allen is without question a woman who will not legislate from the bench. She cannot be bought and she will not be swayed. I challenge all the voters of Pennsylvania (Democrat, Republican, Independent, or otherwise) to look into her in depth. She is a rare gem. We can’t let this one get away!"

Spirit Daily - Daily spiritual news from around the world

This is such a coincidence, My eldest daughter just left for Mexico City this morning with plans to visit the shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe this week. This morning I opened my e-mail to find this story about a strange light emanating from the image of Our Lady of Guadalupe on the day Mexico City legalized abortion. For more information visit: Spirit Daily - Daily spiritual news from around the world: "An apparent communique from Dr. Jean-Pierre Dickès, president of the Catholic Association for Doctors, Nurses and Health Professionals, reports what may have been an unusual luminosity in the famed image of Mary at the Shrine of Guadalupe in Mexico City immediately after that city legalized abortion.

The event is said to have occurred on April 24 -- the day legislators okayed termination of the unborn up to twelve weeks. However, the similarity to photos taken in 1999 by an American raises questions that require further investigation for authenticity and a check of dates."
